Here is John Thrift holding his son, Kelly. Kelly was born 15 September 1969, one year after John returned home from the Republic of South Vietnam. Two handsome young lads indeed!

This is a picture of John's uniform. Notice the 3 bullet fragments, John received these souvenirs from a VC hiding in the bushes near Tan An, 1 June 1968. The bullets came through the floor between his feet. You can also see "FUEL" on his uniform.

The Greyhound logo, this one on John Thrift's ship #66-16630, came to be highly respected by the American GRUNTS the 240th supported. The men of the 9th Infantry, 25th Infantry, 199th Light Infantry and Special Forces, knew that the Greyhounds would never leave a man behind in an LZ. Our company motto was "Go Greyhound And Leave The Flying To Us" and it was always carried out with perfection by our Greyhound Flight Crews!

The first air crews of the 240th to arrive in Bearcat lived in tents until June of 1968. There's the movie screen where the guys could catch a flick once in a while.

John said this was a scene near "Widows Village" near Long Binh taken in February of 1968.

John and Martha didn't mention this in there letter, but please look closely at the bottom photo of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. This memorial is located at Bay and East Broad Streets, Emmett Park, Savannah, GA. Looks like John and Martha made a donation to the memorial and honored the entire 240th AHC! Thanks, John and Martha!
