Where Are They Now

This page is for anyone that has information on any of the great choppers that flew in the 240th AHC and where they might be now. Send us an email if you know of any helicopter that might be on display somewhere that was once one of our birds.

CW2 Willie Mittelstadt, Mad Dog 34, posted the following information on the guestbook of LZ of the 240th. That was my ship while flying with the Mad Dogs!

This is Mad Dog 34. (Dec 69 to Dec 70) Today I am visiting Ft. Stewart outside of Savannah GA. In trying to find my way back to my guest quarters, low and behold what is in the parking lot where I turned around, but a Charlie model mini gunship....#497. After talking to a couple of pilots from the 240th, I was right that the ship is one of ours that a lot of us flew in. It now has old markings indicating that it was with the 3rd of the 7th Cav. I am leaving the base tomorrow and I will investigate further. I am no more than 2 blocks away from it and no one is more amazed than I am to make this discovery. More to follow. Keep it between the clouds. The adventure continues.

CW2 Felix Bates, aka The Frito Bandido, posted the following information on LZ of the 240th's guestbook. We didn't think about it but what a great idea to ask if anyone has pictures of any of our choppers that we now know their location. Thanks, Frito Bandido!

I am in contact with a group of Argentinean Armed Forces that fly one of our birds UH-1H 66-16209. Does anyone remember the aircraft? I see in the history of the aircraft that it is mistaken in an account up in I CORP, but this aircraft was shot down with our unit on 21 April 1968 with LTC Olson as AC and CW3 Link as co-pilot.
LTC Floyd W Olson (AC)
CW3 Robert C Link (CP)
SP6 Frankie B Johnson, Jr. (CE)
SP6 Larry C Jamerson (G)
SFC James E Creamer, Jr.
SFC Lyle E MacKedanz
Let me know if anyone remembers or has pictures of the aircraft. Clear Left, Pulling..................................

Hi Guys. Randy Zahn found one of your aircraft, 68-16322, on a pole in WA. The bird was with you from 10/68 to 6/70 then back to the States. He thought you might be interested.
