Photos of Mike Polsley

Mike Polsley arrived in Nam on October the 24th 1968. When he arrived the only armament personnel the 240th had was short with only 6 days left in country; hence I inherited what there was of an armament shop (one small shipping container) located in by the Kennel Keepers area. Shortly after I arrived the 9th Division (The Old Reliables) and our sister company moved to the Delta. When they left we moved in to the wooden building on the flight line which became Mad Dogs shop. I left on October 24th 1969 to return to civilian life. If I had any more time to spend in the Army it all would have been spent with the Dogs, Hounds and Keepers. In my opinion, there wasn't a finer bunch of guys in the whole country.
I look forward to seeing you all in October.
Your Brother
Mike Polsley

Mike sent a number of pictures to Linda and I for his page(s) up on LZ and Flightline and we thought we would start off with the one of the famous Restaurant most of us in the 240th had a chance to eat at on occasion; Loon Foons at Long Binh. Do you remember, guys, how nice it was to sit down with cloth table covers and cloth napkins and have a delicious Chinese dinner and a glass of water with ice in it???? Most of us didn't get their often but I know we would jump at the chance to be able to buy a dinner at Loon Foons!

Here's 240th AHC Armorer, Mike Polsley, at his office. Check out how neat and orderly all the tools are hanging from the walls. Ragman wishes his garage and work room in the basement looked half as good as Mike kept the Armament Room!

This is one of the best pictures ever sent to us for display on LZ and/or Flightline! Here is Mike and his crew coming in low over the village just after a combat assault. You know Charlie's heart, if he was in the area and he probably was, was pounding rapidly with adrenaline and fear when he heard the rotor blades of the Dogs and Hounds coming to do battle with him/her!

Another great picture taken by Mike Polsley! Here they are in a Mad Dog Gunship, nosing over to go in for a rocket run! Hang on, Mike!

I might have spoke to soon when I said the other picture of Mike's was one of the best ever sent to us. Here's another great shot from Mike, the sun setting on the Mad Dog Shack down at the 240th Flighline. I tried to adjust the picture to make it a little brighter but I couldn't recapture that beautiful sunset that Mike caught and decided to leave well enough alone. Another day over for the men of the 240th AHC and I bet Mike and the guy's were glad to mark another day off of their short time calendars!

The Hounds and Dogs taking off to do battle with Charlie! What a beautiful site, all those HUEYS! The American GRUNTS (always capitalized as a sign of respect to our Brother's on the ground) loved to hear the sound of the 240th AHC HUEYS, womp, womp, womp, especially when the Dogs provided ARA and M60 machine gun fire during combat support and when our Hounds were going into to pick them up; especially in a real hot LZ!

Mike Polsley wasn't only the armorer for the 240th AHC, he flew many a mission with the Mad Dogs. Here Mike is pointing out a close call from one of Charlie's bullets but it was close but no cigar! It wasn't enough that our fantastic Kennel Keepers kept our Huey's running in tiptop shape, but they sure did some fine body work when patching up the many bullet holes that the Mad Dogs and Greyhounds received during missions.

Mike, standing, and another Mad Dog (don't know the gentleman's name sitting), taking a well deserved break and chowing down on the scrumptious C Rations!
When you are hungry, those C Rats tasted pretty good!
