Thanks For The Memories

Tribute To Bob Hope

On May 29, 1903, in Eltham, England, the best friend that an American GI ever had was born and his name was Leslie Townes Hope. The Hope family immigrated to the United States in 1907 and ended up living in Cleveland, Ohio. Leslie Townes Hope would go on to be known as Bob Hope and would truly become a superstar in the world of show business. In May of 1941, a love affair started with Mr. Bob Hope and America's men and women in military uniform that would last for nearly six decades when he and some other entertainers went to March Field in California to entertain service personnel. From World War 2 to Operation Desert Storm, Mr. Hope, often times with his lovely wife, Dolores, would give up their own holidays with their family to entertain America's troops. Of all the awards Mr. Bob Hope received throughout his life, his children said the one he was most proud of was Resolution 75 in October of 1997, passed by both the Senate and House unanimously making Mr. Hope an Honorary Veteran the first and only person in the history of the United States to be granted this status. It was wonderful for our government to make Mr. Hope an Honorary Veteran but for those of us that served in the military, and especially those of us that fought and served in Vietnam, we always knew he was one of us! The following page(s) are in tribute to Mr. Hope's contributions to American GI's and if you have a picture or story you would like to share about your personal experience with Mr. Bob Hope, we would be honored to put it on this website.
